Today on the date of October 17 1777 the British General John Burgoyne had surrendered to the Continentals and Green Mountian Boys. In the deppressing time of defeat American spirits are low and now at the battle of saratoga the americans have had there first victory in a while which not only boosted american spirits, it also ended all British threat in New England. The battle was also influcened by the Green Mountian Boys who were almost like Milita who came out of vermont commanded by a simple blacksmith named Ethan Allen who lead the Green Mountian Boys to many victories. The Crucial Part the Green Mountian Boys played in this battle were slowing British advances through the forest by cutting down tress in the British paths and by damming up rivers so they could not advance in that same direction. By the end of the battle of saratoga the british troops lead by General Burgoyne were surrounded by the Green Mountain Boys and Continentals which gave the Continentals victory in the Battle of Saratoga.

Some events that took place in the Battle of Saratoga were that General Burgoyne had an attack plan that involved three British armies marching to Albany New York from diffrent directions to crush the American forces Burgoyne also planned on taking the Hudson River to stop the flow of supplies and troops to General Washingtons Army. General Burgoyne called on General Howe for aid in this attack but King George the 3rd wanted howe to capture Philadelphia first which left Burgoyne with no aid what so ever until Howe completed his mission, and once Howe took Philadelphia he instead of marching on to New York, he stayed in Philadelphia for the winter and left General Burgoyne in New York and moving Washington to Valley Forge Pennslyvannia.

During the battle of Saratoga the two army’s fought desperately for control of the Hudson River. The British army that consisted of British, German, and French men fought against the American militia. The Americans where lead by General Horiato Gates and Brigadier General Benedict Arnold. The British troops where lead by General John Burgoyne. The 17,000 solders fought against each other for control of land, and the Americans outnumbered the British two to one. Some of the American troops used a new technology of rifled barrels to make their shots more accurate. They used this to help kill British troops and mainly targeted officers. The battle mainly took place on the banks and woods of the Hudson River. The British held down for strong hold on the battle field. Gates held down Bemis heights and Arnold commanded the attacking forces. This was a key battle during the fall of 1777 in October. The American army was fighting for the control of the Hudson River and to protect New York. They mainly wanted the control of the Hudson River for transporting goods and troops. The Americans won the battle by outnumbering the British and killing their officers so that they had no commanders. This battle was won by the Americans and this helped the colonists regain control of this war.

The battle of Saratoga was one of the worst battles in America. This battle happened in the summer of 1777.Americas victory was a great accomplishment to America. British regulars are highly trained and allied with Natives and hessian troops. American troops were not very well trained but they were still able to beat the British soldiers. The American soldiers were not allied with anyone but then the French and Netherlands joined them later. The British were outnumbered two to one but they were better soldiers than the American soldiers. They were more trained and had bayonets on the end of their gun for close quarter combat. The American troops didn’t so they had a disadvantage to the British troops. The American citizens wanted Independence for their family so they went to fight for it and also their lives.
At the end of the war Americas soldiers won the battle of Saratoga defeating the British troops. America got what they wanted by winning the battle and that was their Independence. This was really important to America because they needed to be free and have their Independence. This battle was one of the best victories for America.
